Running costs

What Premium Long-Run costs to run

With a SCOP of 4.6, every unit of electricity becomes 4.6 units of heat, so a kWh of heat costs about 5.5p, against 8.7p from a gas boiler. In summer, a SEER of 7.7 keeps a bedroom cool for pennies an hour. Here it is in pounds and pence, at today’s electricity price.

Typical room size is a guide for an average living room. Bedrooms need a little less, sunny rooms and conservatories more. We size every room properly at the survey. “An hour flat out” is the most the unit can cost an hour at full power; once a room is up to temperature it runs well below that. Running costs on this site use Flexible Octopus prices for East Midlands: electricity at 25.4p and gas at 7.8p per kWh, checked daily with Octopus Energy.
